A man with a fine sense of humor. A delight in irony. Always with a twinkle in his eye. A part of Hawaii’s political history. One of the most influential figures at the Capitol. There’s no one in Hawaii who doesn’t know John.

These are just some of the descriptions from people who have come to know John Radcliffe.

The Story
"Keeping me alive is costing thousands of dollars a week."
With Hawaii ranked as having the country’s largest aging population, hospice use and palliative care are as high as they have ever been.
Medical aid in dying is known as death with dignity. It only pertains to mentally competent adults with terminally ill conditions that have a prognosis of six months or less to live. These persons will then be able to request and obtain aid-in-dying medication. Current law only allows terminal patients the ability to refuse treatment and begin the process of stopping all life-sustaining treatment - eating and drinking.
Hawai'i is debating this choice during the legislative session and it all centers around one man, John Radcliffe.
